About the competition
The Pinch was founded in 1980 as the Memphis State Review by William Page. In its first few years, the journal published such well-known writers as Robert Bly, Phillip Levine, Mary Oliver, Robert Penn Warren, and Margaret Atwood.
The 2023 Pinch Literary Awards accepts poetry and fiction. The 2023 Page Prize accepts non-fiction.
Competition guidelines
- The 2023 Pinch Literary Awards accepts poetry and fiction. The 2023 Page Prize accepts non-fiction.
- Submissions will be accepted from February 1, 2023 – March 31, 2023 at the end of the day.
- The submission fees are $20 for the Pinch Literary Awards and $10 for the Page Prize.
- The 1st place winners in poetry and fiction each receive a prize of $2,000. The 1st place winner of the Page Prize receives $1,000.
- The Pinch will only be accepting original works. Simultaneous submissions are allowed.
- There is no limit to the number of submissions a person can make to the contest.
- Submissions via email will NOT be accepted.
- Fiction submissions should not exceed 5,000 words.
- Poetry submissions have a maximum of three poems.
- Non-fiction submissions should not exceed 1,000 words.
