Deadline: May 1, 2024

Entry fee: £29

About the competition

The Cheshire Novel Prize is a worldwide writing competition for un-agented authors of adult fiction, memoir and fictional memoir.

With a top prize of £1,500, there is clearly a lot of appeal. But it is the prestige of winning the award that could really kickstart your career as a novelist.

The prize is now nearly three years old and over the last two years, twelve  shortlisted writers have received offers of representation as a direct result of entering the prize. Many other listed writers have received interest in their work—and representation in some cases. Other writers have used feedback from the event to successfully become published with independent presses or smaller publishing houses.

Competition guideline

  • Our 2024 novel competition will be open to entries from midnight on 1st January 2024. We close to entries at midnight GMT on 1st May 2024. If you are entering from overseas, please note the competition opening and closing times are based on GMT (UK) time.
  • The competition is open to writers over the age of eighteen, of any nationality and resident in any country. However, all entries must be written in English.
  • The Cheshire Novel Prize is open to unpublished or self-published, un-angented novelists of every genre including fictional memoir and memoir. Unfortunately we do not accept Children’s novels but we do accept YA for both the children’s prize and the adult prize. However if you are writing in any other genre for children other than YA, do check out Cheshire Novel Prize Kids:
  • Self-published writers may enter as long as they are un-agented at the time of entry.
  • Read the whole guideline and submit your entry here.
