About the competition

THE BEDFORD COMPETITION, a nonprofit group, runs annual international short story and poetry competitions for anyone in the world over 17 years of age.

There are prizes totalling £4,600 and all winning and shortlisted stories and poems are published as an anthology. Your work will be judged by acclaimed writers or literary agents. Your success will be celebrated at a special Presentation Event.

All net revenues are used to benefit aspiring writers and to provide funds to literary-leaning  charities.

Competition guideline

  • The start date for the Short Story Competition will be 1st May.
  • All entries must be received by midnight on 31st October.
  • Entries can be from anywhere in the world.
  • UK entries may be submitted online or by post. Overseas entries must be submitted online.
  • Postal entries can only be accepted from within the UK.
  • Postal entries must be accompanied by an entry form and the appropriate entry fee and addressed to The Administrator, The Bedford Competition, 28 Miller Road, Bedford, MK42 9NZ.
  • One entry form, whether submitted online or posted, may cover up to three stories. Multiple entry forms may be submitted.
