About the competition

The National Poetry Competition is an annual poetry prize organized by the UK-based Poetry Society. The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over. International entries are welcome.

All poems must have a title and must not exceed 40 lines in length (excluding title)

Entries must be written in English.

Entries can be on any subject.

Entries must not have been published.

The first poem submitted costs £8. Subsequent entries in the same submission cost £5 per poem.

We are keen to encourage quality submissions, so suggest writers to check their stories before submitting using Prowritingaid. They have free and paid versions and are the best writing software we know to help improve grammar, readability and check for repetition, ‘sticky’ sentences and suggest alternatives.
