About the competition
SLEEK CITY PRESS is open for contest submissions on the theme: Magic Medicine. Fiction and creative non-fiction entries of up to 800 words will be considered for inclusion in our coming anthology MINDSCAPES as well as the contest’s first prize of $1500.
Participants are encouraged to let their imaginations run free and think the unthought. Deadline for entries is December 4th 2022. First prize winner will be announced by January 15th 2023.
Although this is for short fiction we are limited participation to four entries per contestant, to ensure methodical evaluation. 50 fee waivers are available for low-income writers. Treat us with your magic, folks.
Competition guidelines
- The winner is to be announced by Jan 15th, 2023.
- Send entries as .doc (or .pdf) attachments.
- Do provide your location and bio, if you wish.
- Do not put your name on your manuscript.
- Contestants agree to allow Sleek City Press one-time publication rights for part or whole digital reproduction of winning entries.
- We accept entries that have been published before (if writers hold rights) but not any that have previously won a contest.
- Contestants agree to allow Sleek City Press to make reasonable changes to winning entries for display purposes only.
- Sleek City Press agree to consider winning entries for print anthology without reading fee. Sleek City Press may recommend alterations to shortlisted entries for the purposes of submission to anthology consideration. Sleek City Press can not guarantee that resubmitted drafts will be read without an accompanying fee.
- Contestants must be aged 18 or over by the date of sending their submission(s).
- While we remain open to work that stretches concepts, we prefer to see foundations for anything that veers into the graphic. We cannot tolerate propaganda without irony. Hateful material will vanish.
- We work with a team of volunteers who sift the preliminary round. We trust our volunteers and respect their decisions.
- Fees and prizes are paid through PayPal.
