Boston Book Festival: Middle Grade Graphic Novels: Cats vs. Dogs

October 18, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 4:45 pm EDT

Boston Book Festival- Middle Grade Graphic Novels- Cats vs. Dogs

About the event

Are you a cat person or a dog person? This fun and interactive session are open to both! Artist Michelle Mee Nutter, illustrator of Allergic, a graphic novel about a girl whose desire for a dog is foiled by her allergies, will square off against author Colleen AF Venable and artist Stephanie Yue, whose graphic novel series opener Katie the Catsitter is about a girl who winds up sitting for 217 cats! The perfect impartial host for this session is, of course, Jef Czekaj, author and illustrator of Cat Secrets and Dog Rules, not to mention his latest picture book, Little Ghoul Goes to School. Bring the family dog or your 217 cats to learn more about these funny graphic novels during this fast-paced session that will include draw-offs, audience voting, and a surprise or two! Sponsored by Simmons University.

Donations made during registration or during the session will go to support the Boston Book Festival’s Shelf Help Partnership, providing brand-new books and an author/illustrator visit to Boston-area public schools. This year’s recipient schools are Josiah Quincy Elementary School in Chinatown and Chelsea High School in Chelsea. Thank you for your support!

Please note:

The Valley of Writers team scours the web looking for the most inspiring, elevating, and accessible events that we can share as a service to our readers.
The big idea is that in a virtual arena, more people can participate. Geographical boundaries matter less.
The events we list are virtual and can be attended by writers from wherever they are in the world.
Unless otherwise stated, we are not affiliated with and do not benefit financially from the events we post. Listing is not an endorsement of the content, opinions, or products promoted by the event organizers we feature here.
Please verify all dates, times and other event details as these are subject to change and are beyond our control.

What qualifies an event as ‘lit’? Any event that we think would teach writers of fiction, memoir, and poetry useful skills, inspire them to produce great work, remind them of the power of this work we do and build stronger, mutually beneficial ties between writers and other creatives.
