Join the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing for a talk with Christa Parravani on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Arizona MST (8:00-9:30 p.m. EST) on Zoom.
Parravani will also be teaching a workshop, with the Piper Writers Studio. More details about the class will be announced soon.

About the Author
Christa Parravani is the author of Her: A Memoir and Loved and Wanted: A Memoir of Choice, Children, and Womanhood. Praised as “astonishing” by Vanity Fair, Her shares Parravani’s journey through grief after the sudden loss of her identical twin sister, Cara, who died suddenly in 2006. Research into bereavement after the loss of a twin indicates that twins feel the loss of their sibling more severely than any other loss, and regardless of the cause 50 percent of the time, the surviving twin dies within two years. “Flip a coin,” she thought,” those were my chances of survival.” Parravani’s lyrical, honest memoir is an incandescent story of loving and losing one’s twin, an uncompromising love poem to the joys and dangers of shared identity, and an unforgettable tale of trauma, survival, and triumph. She was named the Amazon Debut Spotlight Pick, an Amazon Best Book of the month, an Indie Bound Next Pick, a Books for a Better Life nominee, NPR critics pick, and both an Oprah and People Magazine must-read memoir. Parravani’s latest memoir, Loved and Wanted, chronicles her experiences attempting to access a legal abortion in rural America. Against her own instincts as a mother and woman with the supposed agency over her body, when Parravani was denied access to the procedure she had requested, she gave birth to her son, though his significant medical complications went undiagnosed, denied, and ignored. Part memoir, part call to arms, Loved and Wanted recounts her harrowing experience with healthcare access under the Trump Administration. Parravani’s writing has appeared in Guernica, Catapult, Hobart, Marie Claire, Glamour, The Washington Post, Salon, The Rumpus, The Daily Beast, The London Times, The Daily Mail, The Guardian, and DAME, among other places. She is at work on a book about the troubled marriage of a young CIA case officer struggling with the terror of an abusive husband while fighting the global war on terror during the bin Laden years.
