About the host:

Katharine B. is a published author with over ten years of editing experience, looking to enhance your creative vision and bring your writing dreams to life.

Hey there, I’m Katharine. With a bachelor’s in English and two master’s degrees (creating writing and teaching), I’m very familiar with editing, and as a published author, I can read whatever you send with a keen eye. One of my critique partners has lovingly told me I have an “eagle eye of death” when it comes to detecting plot holes and character inconsistencies, and I do my best every day to meet that description.

I’ll edit essentially anything, but I have a serious affair with romance stories—doesn’t matter if they’re adult or YA. Being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, I do have a soft spot for F/F stories, but again, I’ll read anything. Give me your swoony love interests and spunky protagonists. As long as your characters are interesting, it doesn’t matter the genre: I want to read it, and I want to edit it.

While on CritiqueMatch, I have helped over a dozen writers polish their stories with advice on plot development, character consistency, grammar, line edits, concept, and overall story structure. I balance artists’ visions with the principles of storytelling, helping them take good stories and make them great. In addition, I participate in two writing groups, where we share our work, critique, and serve as beta readers. One group exchanges work monthly, and I’ve edited two Pushcart-nominated short stories. The other group focuses on short stories and anthologies by independent authors.

You can hire Katharine B. on CritiqueMatch for high-level critique, in-line comments, query letter, and synopsis critiques.

Please note:

The Valley of Writers team scours the web looking for the most inspiring, elevating, and accessible events that we can share as a service to our readers.
The big idea is that in a virtual arena, more people can participate. Geographical boundaries matter less.
The events we list are virtual and can be attended by writers from wherever they are in the world.
Unless otherwise stated, we are not affiliated with and do not benefit financially from the events we post. Listing is not an endorsement of the content, opinions, or products promoted by the event organizers we feature here.
Please verify all dates, times and other event details as these are subject to change and are beyond our control.

What qualifies an event as ‘lit’? Any event that we think would teach writers of fiction, memoir, and poetry useful skills, inspire them to produce great work, remind them of the power of this work we do and build stronger, mutually beneficial ties between writers and other creatives.
