Free, online poetry workshops for people who ‘don’t write’. We reclaim the right to be ‘bad’.

About this event

Welcome to The Bad Poets Parade! Free online poetry workshops for people who ‘don’t write’. This is put into inverted commas, to interpret however you wish.

The Bad Poets Parade knows that everybody is innately creative, and has the right to express it.

The Bad Poets Parade knows poetry can be tedious, difficult, and brain-rotting.

The Bad Poets Parade knows poetry can be soul-igniting, life-affirming and pure magic.

The Bad Poets Parade doesn’t expect you to be ‘good’

The Bad Poets Parade rejects the concept of being ‘good’

The Bad Poets Parade rejects oppressive gatekeeping practices of the so-called ‘poetry world’.

This one-hour poetry workshop, run by Tay McGraa (her/they), will allow you to leave your ego at the door, move away from other people’s expectations and facilitate a time for you to write. Structured by prompts designed to stimulate the imagination, it will facilitate creative flow of a new kind.

This isn’t a workshop to refine a writing practice or become a poetry expert. It is a workshop to breathe, let go, and explore your thoughts or experiences through the medium of poetry, without any self or group criticism looking over your shoulder.

No experience required. Bad poetry preferred.

Zoom Link will be sent out closer to the time of the workshop.

This workshop is a safe space for all members. There will be a zero-tolerance policy on any racism, ableism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, biphobia Islamophobia, xenophobia or oppressive actions of any kind. If you feel somebody in the group has acted in this way, please privately message the host – Tay – they will address the situation with discretion.

The aim of The Bad Poets Parade workshops is to move away from the exclusivity of the ‘poetry world’. In this way, it would like to remain accountable and in a constant state of growth. Please feel free to send any feedback to [email protected]

Please note:

The Valley of Writers team scours the web looking for the most inspiring, elevating, and accessible events that we can share as a service to our readers.
The big idea is that in a virtual arena, more people can participate. Geographical boundaries matter less.
The events we list are virtual and can be attended by writers from wherever they are in the world.
Unless otherwise stated, we are not affiliated with and do not benefit financially from the events we post. Listing is not an endorsement of the content, opinions, or products promoted by the event organizers we feature here.
Please verify all dates, times and other event details as these are subject to change and are beyond our control.

What qualifies an event as ‘lit’? Any event that we think would teach writers of fiction, memoir, and poetry useful skills, inspire them to produce great work, remind them of the power of this work we do and build stronger, mutually beneficial ties between writers and other creatives.
