FREE | Speak the Word: online poetry editing workshop
August 13, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EDT
Free
An online poetry editing workshop for peer encouragement, feedback and critique
About this event
ON THE 2ND SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, SPEAK THE WORD RUNS A POETRY EDITING WORKSHOP
What this means is that we bring a poem and our request (encouragement, validation, critique – for example) to the group and we support each other in improving our craft.
We’re building a close, welcoming and supportive community with each other – wherever we’re at with our poetry – to learn together about editing and how to give feedback.
You don’t need to be an expert. Nobody needs to feel ill-prepared, we figure out out together!
Please bring along one piece of writing that you are working on (poetry/prose). Please also have it typed up, because we will ask you to share your screen.
We will have approximately 15 minutes to discuss each person’s work.
Event time: 6–7.30pm (GMT/UTC)
Duration: 90 minutes
Accessibility: Captioning available, let us know if you have any other accessibility needs.
Queer & trans-affirming.
This is the schedule for our Speak the Word events:
- 1st Saturday of month: writing workshop
- 2nd Saturday of month: editing workshop
- 3rd Saturday of month: writing workshop
- 4th Saturday of month: open mic
- 5th Saturday of month (when there is one): journaling workshop

Please note:
The Valley of Writers team scours the web looking for the most inspiring, elevating, and accessible events that we can share as a service to our readers.
The big idea is that in a virtual arena, more people can participate. Geographical boundaries matter less.
The events we list are virtual and can be attended by writers from wherever they are in the world.
Unless otherwise stated, we are not affiliated with and do not benefit financially from the events we post. Listing is not an endorsement of the content, opinions, or products promoted by the event organizers we feature here.
Please verify all dates, times and other event details as these are subject to change and are beyond our control.
What qualifies an event as ‘lit’? Any event that we think would teach writers of fiction, memoir, and poetry useful skills, inspire them to produce great work, remind them of the power of this work we do and build stronger, mutually beneficial ties between writers and other creatives.
