FREE | Speak the Word: online poetry writing workshop

September 18, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EDT

Poetry and spoken word writing workshops open to people of all abilities

About this event

We’re a friendly, inclusive and encouraging group. Whoever you are and whatever your relationship with poetry, we’d love you to join us.

Following on from an incredible series of poetry and spoken word workshops with Roundhouse Slam Poet Rakaya Fetuga, through The Caraf Centre, several of us enjoyed the community so much that we’ve decided to continue the sessions.

Poet PJ Samuels opens the session with a wellbeing check-in and freewrite, and Poet nudi brings poems, artwork and prompts for inspiration.

There’s no pressure to share what you write, so feel free to just come along and see how you like it!

Event time: 6–7.30pm (GMT/UTC)

Duration: 90 minutes

Accessibility: Captioning available, let us know if you have any other accessibility needs.

Queer & trans-affirming.

This is the schedule for our Speak the Word events:

  • 1st Saturday of month: writing workshop
  • 2nd Saturday of month: editing workshop
  • 3rd Saturday of month: writing workshop
  • 4th Saturday of month: open mic
  • 5th Saturday of month (when there is one): journaling workshop

Additional events can be found on our eventbrite page.

Please note:

The Valley of Writers team scours the web looking for the most inspiring, elevating, and accessible events that we can share as a service to our readers.
The big idea is that in a virtual arena, more people can participate. Geographical boundaries matter less.
The events we list are virtual and can be attended by writers from wherever they are in the world.
Unless otherwise stated, we are not affiliated with and do not benefit financially from the events we post. Listing is not an endorsement of the content, opinions, or products promoted by the event organizers we feature here.
Please verify all dates, times and other event details as these are subject to change and are beyond our control.

What qualifies an event as ‘lit’? Any event that we think would teach writers of fiction, memoir, and poetry useful skills, inspire them to produce great work, remind them of the power of this work we do and build stronger, mutually beneficial ties between writers and other creatives.
