About this event
UPDATE: In light of the Omicron outbreak and the cancellation of Auckland Pride, and in the interest of keeping our community safe, the 2022 Samesame but Different Festival will now take place online, including this event. You can still register via Eventbrite, and if you have already reserved a place in any of our events, we will make sure to send you the link so that you can enjoy the online version. Thank you for your understanding and we hope that you will still join us to hear from our fantastic LGBTQI+ writers and creatives!
Writing about our own experiences can sometimes trigger trauma and distress. How do we write about the ‘hard stuff’, and how can this writing help others? Narrative therapist Tom Hamilton leads this panel of diverse writers, who explore the vast array of emotions and experiences that make up our lives in their poetry, plays and articles. The panel comprises award-winning theatre director and playwright Shane Bosher, performance poet, actor and writer Daniel Goodwin, artist and writer Vanessa Mei Crofsky and poet essa may ranapiri. Chaired by the one and only Tom Hamilton.
This event is part of the 2022 Auckland Pride Festival. See the full program at aucklandpride.org.nz

Please note:
The Valley of Writers team scours the web looking for the most inspiring, elevating, and accessible events that we can share as a service to our readers.
The big idea is that in a virtual arena, more people can participate. Geographical boundaries matter less.
The events we list are virtual and can be attended by writers from wherever they are in the world.
Unless otherwise stated, we are not affiliated with and do not benefit financially from the events we post. Listing is not an endorsement of the content, opinions, or products promoted by the event organizers we feature here.
Please verify all dates, times and other event details as these are subject to change and are beyond our control.
What qualifies an event as ‘lit’? Any event that we think would teach writers of fiction, memoir, and poetry useful skills, inspire them to produce great work, remind them of the power of this work we do and build stronger, mutually beneficial ties between writers and other creatives.
