I’m struggling with resizing images for my author website. Any advice?
I have been putting up images on my author website, including screenshots taken from my computer showing the apps I use for writing my books, plotting novels, etc.
The challenge is that the images are in a format called .png and they are huuuuuuuge. About 4Mb, some of them. How do I change them to .jpg and make them smaller?
There are several tools that you can use to resize images and convert them from one format to another.
One of our favorites is a free app called PhotoScape, but that’s a whole image-editing package. it may be overkill for what you want to do here.
Here are a few tools that are specifically for changing image formats and resizing them. For most purposes, a jpg file that’s between 70kb and 200kb will be the right resolution for a website, so this is the range you are going for.
This is an easy-to-use tool that lets you upload your png, select how big you want it to be, and then click on a button to convert it and have the jpg downloaded to your computer. The website has tools for converting to and from other image formats too. It’s free and doesn’t require you to have an account unless you want to convert really huge images.

Upload your file, maximum 35Mb, click upload, wait a little, and then your image is ready for download. Unlike Online Convert, this tool doesn’t give you options for resizing the length and width of the image.

Convert up to 20 images at the same time with this tool. As with the two above, no registration is required. Each image you upload can be up to 50Mb in size.
